Dallas’s annual rainfall is currently 4 inches below average and neighboring Arlington is 10 inches below its average. Due to the extreme conditions, burn bans have been issued for Collin, Dallas, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties and the national weather service has prepared a drought statement for the DFW area. Dallas Soil Conditions
Dallas, along with Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, and Houston is one of the cities with the highest demand for foundation repair in Texas. Dallas has very rocky soil with shallow bedrock and is composed of mostly silty clay, silty loam, and gravely soil. Most of Dallas’s soil has extreme plasticity, meaning that depending on weather and moisture conditions, the soil is prone to swelling or shrinking in large amounts.
If you would like to take a detailed look at the soil in your neighbourhood, consider looking at the United States Department of Agriculture’s Soil Survey Tool. It can give you an in-depth look at exactly what type of soil your home sits on and the characteristics one can expect from soils of that type.
For your convenience, we have compiled a tutorial on how to use the Soil Survey Tool which you can read by clicking here.
